We want to start on May, Thursday 20th, 2004 in the late afternoon and will end on May, Sunday 23rd, 2004 at noon. More exact information is contained in the program.
The conference will take place at the Department of Philosophy at Vienna University.
Neues Institutsgebäude (NIG)
- Department of Philosophy
- Online city map
- Overview map of the university (we are in number 2)
- Neues Institutsgebäude (we are on the 3rd floor)
The Neues Institutsgebäude is situated "behind" the main university buildings, which are located at the Vienna Ring which is the border of the inner city. All public transportation therefore is described to the stop Universität / Schottentor of the U2. From this stop you should see the Votivchurch with the park Votivpark in front of it. To the left of the Votivpark runs the Universitätsstraße. The NIG is the number 7.
Use U2 to Universität / Schottentor.
From the Westbahnhof use the U3 direction Volkstheater, and there change to U2 direction Schottentor (about 15 minutes).
From the Westbahnhof use the U3 direction Volkstheater, and there change to U2 direction Schottentor.
From airport Vienna use the City Airport Train (CAT) (expensive but fast) or the S7 (cheaper but slower) until stop Landstraße, then use U2 direction Schottentor (about 45 minutes). There is also a bus to the city center.
Please also check the map.
From the North (Praha)
Over the Nordbrücke to the center, Türkenstraße-Hörlgasse, direction Votivpark.
From the West (Germany)
Go through the Wiental to the center. At Karlsplatz head left to the Friedrichsstraße and then follow the U2 to the Rathaus.
From the South
Go to the center, Südtiroler Platz, Favoritenstraße, Wiedner Hauptstraße. At the Karlsplatz head left to the Friedrichsstraße and then follow the U2 to the Rathaus.
Meanwhile there is quite a big number of cheap airlines some of them also fly to Vienna. As an altenative there is the airport of Bratislava which is only 40km from Vienna. As of May 1st, Slowakei Bratislava being the capital of will be member of the EU so the border should be not much of a problem.
billigflieger.de seems to be a usable portal for general information about this issue. At billiger-reisen.de there is an option to search by the target airport so you may find every connection possible for you more easily. Moreover there is billiger-fliegen.com. and V Bird, who have flights starting at 19.99EUR.
There is also Cheap flights which lists cheap flights from the UK.
Contrary to many other conferences we don't require a conference fee, but we would appreciate if you would contribute to the funding of the conference with some amount (standard value: 10EUR).
There is no deadline for registration but if you register as soon as possible then we can plan better.
For Friday and Saturday evening we are planning get-togethers. On Saturday there probably will be a celebration in an own room.
For Friday and Saturday we will offer offer simple, probably vegetarian food.
Close to conference place we will have a mass accomodation where a lot of people can sleep at a low price. Sleeping bag and isolation mat are necessary. If you want to sleep in the mass accomodation then please do not forget to mention this in the registration. Only this way we can plan.
Attention: At this time Vienna is flooded by tourists and accommodation is fully booked soon. We therefore recommend to book early.
On the conference site there will be Internet access at least by Ethernet. If you can bring along patch cable please do so. Probably we will have an area with WLAN access.
Of course Internet access won't cost money.
The conference office will provide a folder with much information.
At this point we thank all named and unnamed supporters of the conference for their involvement without which the conference would not be possible. An overview over the supporters is available at the front page.
We have three big rooms for 35-70 persons where the three tracks will take place.
Besides this we have three more rooms for 15-35 persons for spontaneous discussion rounds, workshops and other things.
We distinguish between several sorts of presentations:
Presentation of a project
A project is presented during a talk. Demonstrations are possible. The talk is followed by a discussion.
A particular thought or a bunch of them is presented in the form of a talk. The talk is followed by a discussion.
One or more contributors prepare on-the-spot presentations about the topic of the workshop. However, the presentation is characterized by the discussion of all people present.
Similar to a workshop but with more emphasize on the discussion by the panel.
This lines up presentations internal to the project (but nonetheless public), with a more formalized character.
Planned and/or spontaneously created sessions, which will discuss a topic without previously prepared material among all people present.
Other forms of presentations are possible. Depends on what is offered to us.
There will be more than thirty planned presentations, which are announced in the Program. Discussions round may be added spontaneously.
At the moment we plan three parallel tracks.
You may view the program in various forms.
This is perfectly possible. Please refer to the speaker FAQ for the details.
Speakers have the option to link their proposal to their entry in http://en.wiki.oekonux.org/Vienna_conference_proposals. May be there you find the proposal you are interested in on a Wiki page.
The conference is a means to understand each other in the Project Oekonux and with other people who come to similar questions in their field. This includes Free hardware projects as well as political analyses.
Open-mindedness regarding other approaches but also the possibility of sustaining criticism are important, but above all a desire for a (joint) development is needed.
The conference will be started by a presentation of important thoughts being developed in the Project Oekonux. This part of the conference is especially meant for people who do not know Oekonux yet. We strongly recommend these people to attend this part of the conference.
The first conference has been attended by about 170 persons, the second by about 150. We will be able to give estimates by the demand for registration.
It definitely will help us if you register for the conference. Then we can estimate better for how many people we need to be prepared.
This is one of the most easy ways to help the conference.
We have a collection of logos for the conference.
As reason for transfer please only give donation. If you mention the conference in the reason for transfer we must use the money for the conference due to association law. This makes us less flexible.
We need people for different tasks on the conference. If you would like to do that, please contact the Oekonux project team. It helps us much if you contact us before the conference so we can plan better. There is an own mailing list for helpers.
On the conference we need people, who are ready to translate simultaneously German/English, or English/German, respectively, for a small group of persons. Please contact the Oekonux project team.
For all questions, wishes, suggestions, and complaints about the conference please contact the Oekonux project team.
