Time and place of the conference

When will the conference take place exactly?

We want to start on May, Thursday 20th, 2004 in the late afternoon and will end on May, Sunday 23rd, 2004 at noon. More exact information is contained in the programLocal link.

Where will the conference take place?

The conference will take place at the Department of Philosophy at Vienna University.

How do I get to the Neuen Institutsgebäude (NIG)?

The Neues Institutsgebäude is situated "behind" the main university buildings, which are located at the Vienna Ring which is the border of the inner city. All public transportation therefore is described to the stop Universität / Schottentor of the U2. From this stop you should see the Votivchurch with the park Votivpark in front of it. To the left of the Votivpark runs the Universitätsstraße. The NIG is the number 7.

If I want to use public transportation in Vienna?

Use U2 to Universität / Schottentor.

If I want to take the train?

From the Westbahnhof use the U3 direction Volkstheater, and there change to U2 direction Schottentor (about 15 minutes).

If I come by airplane?

From airport Vienna use the City Airport Train (CAT) (expensive but fast) or the S7 (cheaper but slower) until stop Landstraße, then use U2 direction Schottentor (about 45 minutes). There is also a bus to the city center.

How do I get to Vienna best?

What about cheap flights?

Meanwhile there is quite a big number of cheap airlines some of them also fly to Vienna. As an altenative there is the airport of Bratislava which is only 40km from Vienna. As of May 1st, Slowakei Bratislava being the capital of will be member of the EU so the border should be not much of a problem.

Further important details about attending the conference

Is there a conference fee?

Contrary to many other conferences we don't require a conference fee, but we would appreciate if you would contribute to the funding of the conference with some amount (standard value: 10EUR).

In any case, however, you please register yourself by registration@oekonux-conference.org or use the registration formLocal link. We need that to get an organizational overview

What about registration?

Please, please, register for the conference. Right now we have no idea how many people will come and you help us very much if you send a short registrationLocal link to registration@oekonux-conference.org.

There is no deadline for registration but if you register as soon as possible then we can plan better.

What about a get together?

For Friday and Saturday evening we are planning get-togethers. On Saturday there probably will be a celebration in an own room.

What about food?

For Friday and Saturday we will offer offer simple, probably vegetarian food.

Where can I sleep?

Close to conference place we will have a mass accomodation where a lot of people can sleep at a low price. Sleeping bag and isolation mat are necessary. If you want to sleep in the mass accomodation then please do not forget to mention this in the registrationLocal link. Only this way we can plan.


Attention: At this time Vienna is flooded by tourists and accommodation is fully booked soon. We therefore recommend to book early.

And Internet access?

On the conference site there will be Internet access at least by Ethernet. If you can bring along patch cable please do so. Probably we will have an area with WLAN access.

Of course Internet access won't cost money.

May I have all that on paper and up-to-date?

The conference office will provide a folder with much information.


About the organization of the conference

Who is the organizer of the conference?

Official organizer of the conference is the Projekt Oekonux e.V.Remote link. The Department of Philosophy at Vienna UniversityRemote link is co-organizer.

At this point we thank all named and unnamed supporters of the conference for their involvement without which the conference would not be possible. An overview over the supporters is available at the front pageLocal link.

In how many rooms the conference will take place?

We have three big rooms for 35-70 persons where the three tracks will take place.

Besides this we have three more rooms for 15-35 persons for spontaneous discussion rounds, workshops and other things.

Which sort of presentations are planned?

We distinguish between several sorts of presentations:

How many presentations are planned in total?

There will be more than thirty planned presentations, which are announced in the ProgramLocal link. Discussions round may be added spontaneously.

How many presentations will run in parallel?

At the moment we plan three parallel tracks.

Is there a program?

You may view the programLocal link in various forms.

May I give a talk / present a workshop / have a spontaneous discussion round?

This is perfectly possible. Please refer to the speaker FAQLocal link for the details.

Is there a possibility to discuss the invited proposals before the conference?

Speakers have the option to link their proposal to their entry in http://en.wiki.oekonux.org/Vienna_conference_proposalsRemote link. May be there you find the proposal you are interested in on a Wiki page.


About the visitors of the conference

What is the target group of the conference?

The conference is a means to understand each other in the Project OekonuxRemote link and with other people who come to similar questions in their field. This includes Free hardware projects as well as political analyses.

Open-mindedness regarding other approaches but also the possibility of sustaining criticism are important, but above all a desire for a (joint) development is needed.

The conference will be started by a presentation of important thoughts being developed in the Project OekonuxRemote link. This part of the conference is especially meant for people who do not know Oekonux yet. We strongly recommend these people to attend this part of the conference.

How many people do you expect at the conference?

The first conference has been attended by about 170 persons, the second by about 150. We will be able to give estimates by the demand for registrationLocal link.


Helping the conference

Does it help if I register?

It definitely will help us if you registerLocal link for the conference. Then we can estimate better for how many people we need to be prepared.

May I tell others about the conference?

This is one of the most easy ways to help the conference.

Do you have a logo I can put on a web site?

Do you need money?

If it is possible for you, you may support the conference by donatingRemote link some money to the Projekt Oekonux e.V.Remote link (registered association to support Oekonux in case a legal entity is needed).

As reason for transfer please only give donation. If you mention the conference in the reason for transfer we must use the money for the conference due to association law. This makes us less flexible.

Do you need help during the conference itself?

Do you need translators?

On the conference we need people, who are ready to translate simultaneously German/English, or English/German, respectively, for a small group of persons. Please contact the Oekonux project teamMail link.
